The Fine Print
Privacy Policy
What we keep, why we keep it, and who else ever sees it. The short answer: very little, and very few.
01What we collect
When you place an order, our payment processor collects your name, email address, billing and shipping address, and payment details. We receive your name, email, address and what you ordered. We never see or store your full card number.
If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google, and keep a sign-in cookie so you stay signed in. Your orders are matched to you by the email address you used at checkout.
If you save a dog to your account, we keep what you enter: their name, weight, age and birthday. When you save a dog from Find Their Mushroom, we also keep the quiz answers that go with it. Quiz and Measure Calculator answers you do not save stay in your browser and are not sent to us.
If you ask to be told when a jar is ready, or join the Founders' Batch waitlist, we keep your email address, your dog's name and weight, your place in line, and your consent. If you share your referral link, we note which sign-ups came through it so we can credit you.
If you leave a note on a jar, we keep your first name, your dog's name and breed if given, your rating and your words, and the email you used so we can check the order. Notes are read by a person before they appear, and only your first name and words are shown.
If you offer a name for the Honour Roll, we keep the name and years you enter. Once approved, they are shown publicly on the site.
If you write to Ask the Apothecary, we keep the conversation for 90 days so the house can read what shoppers ask and keep our answers useful. If you are signed in, it can look up your own orders to answer you.
02Why we use it
We use your information only to fulfil and ship your order, send your order letter, refill reminders, birthday letters for saved dogs and any shipping notices, manage Standing Orders, tell you when a jar you asked about is ready, and answer you when you write to us. Every letter carries a link to stop them. We do not send marketing email unless you have expressly asked us to, and we do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
03Who we share it with
We share only what is needed with the services that help us run the shop: Stripe, to process payments and Standing Orders; Google, if you choose to sign in with it; our email service, to send order letters and notices; our shipping carrier, to deliver your parcel; an artificial intelligence service, which reads your Ask the Apothecary messages to write the reply; and our analytics service, described below. Some of these services may store information outside Canada, where it is subject to the laws of that country.
04Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies and browser storage: one keeps you signed in, others remember your cabinet, your language and any welcome code, and Stripe sets its own during checkout. We also use an analytics service that records how pages are used, including anonymous recordings of visits, so we can see what works and what doesn't. It does not tell us who you are, and we never use it for advertising.
05How long we keep it
We keep order records for as long as needed for tax and accounting obligations, typically seven years, and then delete them. Chat conversations are deleted after 90 days. Dog profiles, waitlist entries and notes stay until you remove them or ask us to.
06Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw consent and ask us to delete it, subject to legal record-keeping requirements. Write to us and we will respond within 30 days.
Write to the house
Questions about an order, a return or your information? Write to support@dirtypawsapothecary.com and a human (supervised by a dog) will reply.
